Description

Biologics, sometimes referred to as regenerative medicine, are treatments that use the body’s tissue and cells to help heal and regenerate. Commonly used biologic treatments in orthopedics include platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC).

Biologic treatments at Ortho RI Biologics may help you postpone or avoid joint replacement or other surgical procedures. While surgical options produce excellent results, the new world of biologics may provide you with nonsurgical alternatives to relieve your pain, helping you get back to living faster.

If an operative approach is best for your condition, Ortho RI Biologics also offers surgical treatments that combine the innovative technology of biologics with the experience and expertise of Ortho Rhode Island surgeons.

Dr. Kay is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon with a focus on total hip replacement, total knee replacement, and partial knee replacement. He specializes in direct anterior hip replacement, as well as minimally invasive, robotic-assisted, complex, and revision hip and knee replacement procedures. After earning his medical degree at Jefferson College, he completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Houston Methodist Hospital, and an Adult Reconstruction (Total Joint) Fellowship at the Rothman Orthopaedic Institute.

Dr. Kay first chose to focus his career on hip and knee replacements during his residency, when he found these cases fascinating, and learned that executing all the steps for a successful joint replacement provided a sense of accomplishment he still experiences after every case. Even more important to his decision to specialize in arthroplasty was the gratitude he saw from patients, after seeing so many lives changed by a successful hip or knee replacement.
