Description
What is Periodontitis (Gum Disease)?
Periodontitis is the progression of gingivitis, resulting in tissue destruction. It is a common inflammatory disease, that affects about 1 in 5 Australians and is one of the leading causes of tooth loss. It occurs due to the body’s
inflammatory response to plaque (the bacterial film that naturally forms on teeth), which destroys the jawbone and periodontal ligament that secure the tooth.
At Hobart Periodontics, we understand that contracting gum disease is not necessarily due to poor oral hygiene or neglect. Not everyone will develop periodontitis, as many factors may contribute to this.
Although it may be evident that you suffer from periodontitis, most often people are not aware of having any problems until their dentist does an examination.
Our mission is to provide our patients with superior oral health by preventing, treating, and managing gum disease and tooth loss in a friendly and supportive environment.
What are the benefits of regular periodontal treatments?
-
Whether you are diagnosed with mild or severe gum disease, we can help with your ongoing treatment, care, and management.
-
We will teach you how to look after your gums and teeth.
-
After our treatment, your mouth and gums feel better and can begin to heal.
-
Unfortunately, untreated gum disease can lead to tooth loss, but we can prevent this from happening in most cases.
-
Your teeth and gums feel more comfortable when brushing and chewing food.
-
You can enjoy dining out with family and friends without concern.
-
You will reduce the overall inflammatory burden to your body, which may benefit your general health.
