How Dental Implants Work

Unlike bridges that remove valuable tooth structure from adjacent teeth, or removable partial dentures that are bulky and sit on top of the gums, dental implants are placed directly into the jawbone. Bone naturally fuses to the implant, which acts as the “root” for the implant tooth. The implant is later restored with a connector called an abutment and finished with a porcelain crown that looks just like a natural tooth. The “tooth” feels and appears life-like, because it comes through the gums just like the original tooth did – it’s like growing a new tooth! Because we handle the entire process from tooth extraction and implant placement to crown fabrication, there’s no need to be referred to another office.
