Description

David practices from Archer Street Health’s new clinic at 199 Campbell St, North Hobart on Tuesdays and Thursdays. On Saturdays he practices at Archer Street Health’s original clinic at 16 Archer St, New Town.

There is on-street parking and, at Campbell St, there are 2 hour spots in the BWS and Woolworths car parks.

At Campbell St, his usual room is upstairs and unfortunately the building does not have a lift, so please let Archer Street Health staff know if you are unable to climb stairs.

David facilitates the Tuning in to Teens group at Archer Street Health.

Tuning in to Teens is a six session parenting program for parents of 10-18 year-olds. As a parent, you will learn how to:

–       communicate more effectively with your teen

–       understand your teen better

–       help your teen to manage those difficult emotions

–       help to prevent behavioural issues in your teen

–       teach your teen how to deal with conflict more effectively

Tuning in to Teens shows you how to help your teen develop emotional intelligence.

Adolescents with higher emotional intelligence:

•       are more aware, assertive and strong in situations of peer pressure

•       have greater success with making friends and are more able to manage conflict with peers

•       are more able to cope when upset or angry

•       have fewer mental health and substance abuse difficulties

•       have more stable and satisfying relationships as adults.

Suitable for parents whose teens are having difficulties with:

–       depression and/or anxiety

–       emotion regulation

–       behavioural issues

–       social skills

Developed by the University of Melbourne, Tuning in to Teens is one of the incredibly successful Tuning in to Kids programs. Efficacy of these programs has been supported by numerous scientific research trials. Learn more at https://tuningintokids.org.au/

Currently the group will be facilitated by Clinical Psychologist, Dr David Bakker, and will be held at Archer Street Health’s offices at 199 Campbell St, North Hobart. Each group will have 6-10 members. A separate group is offered for parents with teens who have Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Parents who have an existing Mental Health Care Plan from their GP (for themselves, not for their child) are able to use this to access Medicare rebates. A new Mental Health Care Plan is not required.
