Mission Statement
Improving the quality of life to the Tasmanian community by providing exceptional individualised high-quality orthopaedic care in a friendly welcoming environment. Exceptional care will be based on sound evidence-based orthopaedic principles, continuing orthopaedic education and ethical research.
I was born in Canada and grew up in suburban Toronto, Ontario. I moved to Australia in 1999, wishing to experience life in my mother’s homeland. I completed a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and my medical degree (MBBS) at the University of Sydney in 2007. I spent my years as a junior doctor in Orange, NSW prior to moving to Melbourne for Orthopaedic training on the Victorian and Tasmanian training program. During my training, I spent 2015 at the Royal Hobart Hospital. I obtained a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) in 2018. I spent my first year of practice in Albury, NSW. After time spent during 2018 as a locum at the LGH, I decided to relocate with my wife and family permanently to Tasmania.
I now work in private practice at Tamar Valley Orthopaedics and St Lukes Private Hospital. I provide public work at the Launceston General Hospital (LGH).
I provide general orthopaedic elective and trauma care. My particular interests are the treatment of sporting and other injuries of the shoulder, knee and ankle and joint replacement surgery of shoulders, hips and knees.
I perform shoulder surgery including stabilisation (open and arthroscopic), rotator cuff repair and shoulder replacement. I also perform total and partial knee replacement, knee arthroscopy including ACL reconstruction, meniscal repair or debridement and patella stabilising procedures. I perform revision knee, hip and hip replacement surgery. In addition, I perform a variety of foot and ankle surgery including ankle arthroscopy, ankle stabilisation and bunion and toe surgery. I enjoy treating fractures of all bones in both the upper and lower limb.
I have an interest in medical education and am currently undertaking a Masters of Surgical Education through the University of Melbourne. I am a senior clinical lecturer at the University of Tasmania and the Director of Training for Orthopaedics at the Launceston General Hospital. I was one of the inaugural Chief Residents for the International Conference on Residency Education (ICRE) and remain on the advisory board.
I love playing and watching sports. I played baseball for University of Sydney (2001-2006), I was a rugby referee (2008-2010), and was team doctor for the Melbourne Ice in the Australian Ice Hockey League (National Champions 2011, 2012, 2017) and served as the team doctor for the Australian National Men’s Ice Hockey Team in 2019.
